JOOLA Kosmos Pro V: Why Shape Matters in JOOLA’s First Hybrid Paddle
The JOOLA Kosmos Pro V is the newest shape in the Pro V family — and JOOLA’s first true hybrid paddle.
Launched on 3 March 2026, Kosmos is Federico Staksrud’s first signature shape since returning to JOOLA. His name sits on the 16mm. Tyson McGuffin’s faster game sits on the 14mm. Same hybrid outline. Two different feels.
If you play a lot of doubles in Hong Kong and keep bouncing between “I want more reach” and “I need faster hands,” this is the JOOLA built for that problem.

Paddle shapes, quickly
Most paddles fall into three outlines. Shape changes reach, sweet-spot size and how fast the paddle moves at the kitchen.
Elongated
Usually about 16.5–17 inches long and 7.5 inches wide. More reach, more leverage on drives and serves, a smaller sweet spot. JOOLA elongated shapes: Perseus, Hyperion, Magnus, Agassi.
Standard
Usually about 16 inches long and 8 inches wide. Wider face, larger sweet spot, quicker hands. Built for doubles and speed-ups. JOOLA standard shape: Scorpeus.
Hybrid
The middle — around 16.3 inches long and 7.7 inches wide. Enough length to cover the court, enough width to stay stable in hands battles. Kosmos is JOOLA’s first official hybrid signature shape.
What the Kosmos shape actually does
In plain terms: Kosmos takes the reach of the Perseus and the forgiveness of the Scorpeus.
Staksrud wanted one paddle for singles and doubles. Elongated paddles gave him leverage. Wider faces gave him faster exchanges. Kosmos is the compromise so you do not have to swap paddles between formats.
McGuffin’s read is the net game: quicker transitions between forehand and backhand volleys. The slightly wider face makes the paddle feel more reactive when the rally speeds up.
JOOLA also built Kosmos with patent-pending KineticFrame in the throat. The frame is designed to flex, store swing energy, and release it on contact — useful when you are driving from the baseline and then absorbing a speed-up two shots later.
How Kosmos can change your game
- More reach than a standard face, without the full length of a Perseus
- A larger, more usable sweet spot than most elongated paddles
- Faster hand switches in kitchen exchanges
- A more even feel from baseline drives to resets
That is the point of a hybrid: you should not feel like you gave up the soft game to get put-away pace, or the other way around.
14mm vs 16mm — which Kosmos?
| Kosmos Pro V 14mm | Kosmos Pro V 16mm | |
|---|---|---|
| Signature | Tyson McGuffin | Federico Staksrud |
| Feel | More pop, quicker response | More dwell time and control |
| Weight (approx.) | 7.9 oz | 8.1 oz |
| Grip | 4.125 in | 4.250 in |
| Best for | Aggressive, fast-paced play | Players who want to absorb pace and place the ball |
If you play mostly social and competitive doubles at 212HK, start with the 16mm. It is more stable and easier to reset with. Choose the 14mm if you already attack first and want the paddle to jump a little more.
Kosmos vs Perseus vs Scorpeus
- Want maximum reach and singles leverage? Stay with Perseus.
- Want the widest face and fastest hands? Scorpeus is still the standard-shape answer.
- Want one paddle that does both well enough? Kosmos.
